The History of "Elsinore" house
Port Macquarie Backpackers was originally named "Elsinore" by the Hibbard family, who built and lived in it from the late 1800s.
THE HOUSE
Also known as Elsinore - built in 1888.
Elsinore is the second oldest house still standing in Port Macquarie.
The oldest is Douglas Vale Homestead, now the closest winery to the hostel.
It was built by the Hibbard family. An early settling family in the area.
Years later, the house became home to a local doctor who ran a Doctor's Surgery here.
Elsinore was the home of the first hostel in Port Macquarie, originally called Lindell Travellers Hostel.
Now, Port Macquarie Backpackers.
This hostel has been welcoming backpackers for over 30 years.
Port Macquarie Backpackers hostel underwent an interior renovation 2017.
The current owners have owned the hostel since January 2020 and continue to make improvements regularly.
